Ex-ESPN anchor Sage Steele made an appearance on Bill Maher’s “Club Ransom” podcast recently.

She spoke about the “saddest” interview she ever did while with ESPN.

Steele said this interview took place with President Biden back in 2021 right before MLB’s Opening Day. He appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter via satellite.

Steele told Maher that Biden “struggled” to get through their interview and “couldn’t finish his sentences” at times while they were talking.

She Also Claims Biden “Trailed Off”

Steele also told Maher that Biden “trailed off” while talking to her, especially when they were speaking just before their interview started.  “He started to tell football stories of his greatness,” Steele recalled.

“He goes, ‘I have the best hands.’ What do you say to that?…And here’s the saddest thing—his voice just trailed off. He said, ‘I was good,’ and then he went silent.”

She Isn’t a Biden Fan

Steele wasn’t shy about telling Maher that she isn’t exactly Biden’s No. 1 fan.

Steele also revealed that she didn’t cast a vote for Biden during the 2020 Presidential Election and won’t be casting a vote for him during the 2024 Presidential Election.

She Believes a Change Should Come

Steele alluded to the fact that Biden should stand aside as President. She cited her interview with him as evidence of this.

She Does Feel Bad for Biden, Though

Despite her criticisms of Biden, Steele admitted that she felt bad for Biden following her interview with him.

“Forgot about politics,” Steele said. “I don’t care. I didn’t vote for him. However, that made me sad. The human aspect of what we’re witnessing right now, to me, is heartbreaking.”

She Sends One Final Shot at Biden

After briefly softening his stance on Biden, Steele seemingly couldn’t resist the urge to take a shot at him while speaking with Maher.

She made a not-so-subtle reference to claims Donald Trump made about Biden in 2020 in the months leading up to the Presidential Election.

“I thought it was so sad because I realized that’s why he was in the basement during the whole election cycle,” Steele said.

Bill Maher allowed Steele to do most of the talking on his podcast. But he has also been critical of President Biden recently.

He Told Biden to Retire

Maher referred to Biden as the “only Democrat who can lose to [Donald] Trump” days before sitting down with Steele.

He Compared Biden to Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Maher also made a comparison between Biden and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who infamously chose not to retire when Barack Obama was President and cleared the way for Trump to replace her with a conservative Supreme Court Justice after her death in 2020.

“Someone has to convince President Biden that if he runs again, he’s going to turn the country back over to Trump and go…down in history as Ruth Bader Biden,”

Maher said, “the person who doesn’t know when to quit and so does great damage to their party and their country.”
